This past quarter in painting class has been an exploration for me as an
artist. We all started with still life painting. I was tired of having to stick
with realism in this subject painting. So I decided to get more creative with
using the grid system I experimented with in Intermediate Drawing. For each
block, I played with different colors - using warm against cold colors. During
the mid-quarter crit, I left some areas white then I worked more on it and
decided to cover the white area anyways. You can see the difference.
One thing I was overly eager about this quarter was the fact I could explore
more on my watercolor skills. I took Luvon’s watercolor class and from the
ending of that class I picked up where I started and continued to be able to
explore and experiment with watercolor painting. I focused on figure but played
around with different animals. I thought they were really cute!
Work outside of class, I focused on various of things. Collage and using the grid system like I used in class. I also focused on oil painting. I didn't do as much as I wanted to but I felt it was important that I should do at least one. I experimented with the palette and how I would get different texture from it. I applied that in the areas where I used the flowers around the skull. I think I want to continue the skull piece. I could further play with my paletted surface on the skull.
